I personally dont think that this would suit most bodycon skirts, but then again I donty know which one you have. I personally would go for the denin shorts and leggings, or maybe just denin shorts? I think that would look really nice tucked in a skirt. You want to feel comfortable for a night out though so if you're worried about your legs then go for the leggings. However, as you said, that is a "safer" option and I think it's good to challenge and push yourself with fashion, the outfits that feel a little unusual at first are normally the ones that look the best.
